– Team Bonnie and Damon: It’s about time, right? Unfortunately, things are majorly tense between them. However, the finale is such an ordeal that the duo will experience a myriad of emotions.
– A distraught Elena: While the episode’s event will lead Elena to spring into action, other developments will also cause a big emotional breakdown. Seriously, have your tissues nearby.) But don’t worry, she’ll definitely have a certain someone to comfort her.– Stefan and Caroline’s feelings are (finally) addressed: Dries tells us, “[Stefan and Elena’s] relationship has evolved so much and they share such mutual respect for each other that we wanted them to have a meaningful friendship moving forward… but in terms of romance, at the moment at least we said he’s moved on.” As for Caroline, Dries adds, “I don’t think she’s going to rekindle things with Tyler, but we don’t want to rush her into anything either. We want every step of her love story — with whomever it’s with — to feel meaningful and organic.”
– Reunions galore: Even more fan favorites will return in this episode. As to who, you’ll get a distinct sense of one of them within the first few minutes. Not only will this person’s arrival make a character really happy, but viewers as well.
– A very different feel for Season 6: Dries reveals, “It won’t explore where Vicki disappeared to [in Episode 18], but we will be seeing a lot of newness in Season 6. The finale will have major effects on our characters and they all will have their own way of dealing and moving on. We think of it as the college metaphor. You leave for college and then when you come home to visit, everything feels a little different and eventually you realize you don’t really live there anymore.””
There’s a lot at stake (heh, stake) going in to Thursday’s (May 15) Season 5 finale of “The Vampire Diaries.” The Other Side is still crumbling, leaving Bonnie, Enzo and Stefan’s fates in the air; Tyler’s body has been hijacked by Julian; Markos and the Travelers have taken over Mystic Falls; and oh yeah, Stefan Salvatore is dead. Dead.
The Season 5 finale, “Home,” is going to be one shocking and emotional hour of TV, executive producer Caroline Dries promises. “The Travelers are trying to rip away their home and it’s something that they rally around and in the meantime, the Other Side is falling apart,” Dries says. “The question is what’s going to happen to Bonnie, what’s going to happen to our friends who are over there that we occasionally check in with, do they just go away like Vicky did? These things are spiraling out of control around them.”
Dries teases there is one major event that goes down in the finale that changes the entire series going forward. “This giant thing happens and we’re breaking Season 6 now in the writers room and it starts with everyone in a different orbit, in a way,” Dries says. “Season 6 will be a lot of bringing people back together from different places.” Read more at Zap 2 It!

Season five of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES began with a sense of hope for Elena (Nina Dobrev). After a passionate summer with Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Elena headed to Whitmore College with Caroline (Candice Accola), not knowing that Bonnie (Kat Graham) sacrificed her life to save Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen). As Bonnie’s friends fought to bring her back to life as the Anchor to the Other Side, Stefan (Paul Wesley) had to face-off with his doppelganger Silas, and a newly human Katherine (Nina Dobrev) struggled with mortality and motherhood. Damon’s relationship with Elena was put to the test when Enzo (guest star Michael Malarkey), an old vampire friend from Damon’s past, revealed he was still alive and looking for revenge. Stefan and Caroline’s friendship deepened as they stood up to the Travelers, a nomadic witch tribe driven to strip Mystic Falls of magic and cast out its supernatural residents. Finally, having lost his town and fearing losing his loved ones on the crumbling Other Side, Damon made a huge sacrifice to bring them all back – to catastrophic results. While the cliffhanger will send our characters reeling, season six will be the story of their journey back to each other as they explore the duality of good versus evil inside themselves on their quest to reclaim their home. Based on the series of books by L. J. Smith, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Outerbanks Entertainment, Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios. The series was developed by Kevin Williamson (“The Following,” “Scream”) & Julie Plec (“The Originals,” “Kyle XY,” “Wasteland”), who serve as executive producers along with Leslie Morgenstein (“Gossip Girl,” “Pretty Little Liars”) and Caroline Dries (“Melrose Place,” “Smallville”).
