EXCLUSIVE: Former The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev is taking another trip to the big screen. Coming off the Toronto Film Festival and SpectreFest screenings of horror comedy The Final Girls, she is now headed for Arrivals, I’ve learned. The actress will join Ender’s Game’s Asa Butterfield and Game Of Thrones’ Maisie Williams in the Peter Hutchings-directed coming-of-age indie.

Dobrev, who left the CW’s Vampire Diaries earlier this year after six seasons, will play American flight attendant Izzy, who is the love interest of Butterfield’s character. The screenplay by Fergal Rock was a 2013 Academy Nicholl semifinalist. The pic, produced by BCDF Pictures and Kalahari Films & Media, is set to start shooting in South Africa this winter.

Butterfield’s Calvin is a hypochondriac college dropout who now works as a baggage handler at Cape Town airport. In a funk, he is pulled into the unconventional bucket list quest of Brit teen Skye, played by GoT’s Williams, who also appears on Doctor Who this season. That team-up helps Calvin to face his deepest fears.

Now off the small screen from playing Elena Gilbert on TVD, Dobrev will be seen October 9 on the big screen in the limited release of The Final Girls. Having debuted at SXSW, the Todd Strauss-Schulson directed film also stars Malin Akerman and Silicon Valley’s Thomas Middleditch. Degrassi: The Next Generation alum Dobrev previously appeared in last year’s Let’s Be Cops, 2012’s The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, and 2009’s Chloe.

002For six years, Nina Dobrev starred as Elena Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries, one the CW’s most successful shows. She won four People’s Choice Awards, six Teen Choice Awards, and even dated her co-star Ian Somerhaulder. But Dobrev, who was born in Bulgaria and still speaks the language fluently, never quite fit into the network’s usual teen queen mold, and when her contract expired at the end of the show’s sixth season, she was ready to move on. Today, The Vampire Diaries will begin its seventh season without its protagonist.

Now 26, Dobrev is being judicious about what she does next. She’s returning to her roots in the indie film industry, first with The Final Girls, a playful spin on cheesy ’80s slasher flicks that won the Audience Award at SXSW and recently screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, and next with Arrivals. Co-starring Taissa Farmiga, Malin Akerman, Alia Shawkat, and Alexander Ludwig, The Final Girls will open tomorrow. Arrivals, which features Asa Butterfield and Game of Thrones’s Maisie Williams, will begin filming early next year. Continue Reading at Interview Magazine

The Internet nearly broke earlier this year when Nina Dobrev took to Instagram to announce that she’d be leaving The Vampire Diaries, the show that catapulted her career and fame to next level. But fans aren’t the only ones adjusting to a world without Elena Gilbert. After a six-year run, Dobrev finds herself navigating a life without boundaries.

In an exclusive interview with Who What Wear, Dobrev opens up about transitioning into adulthood, breaking fashion rules, and determining the future of her career.

Sitting in the hair and makeup chair on the Beverly Hills set of her Who What Wear shoot, Dobrev is on the phone with best friend Julianne Hough. The two are gushing over the dancer’s engagement to professional hockey player Brooks Laich, which was revealed just that morning. While the pressure to settle down is common among most people Dobrev’s age, the 26-year-old isn’t in any rush. “I believe in the timing of my life,” she tells us. “I’m so happy for Julianne. I don’t think she could be with anyone more perfect than Brooks, but she wasn’t on a show for six years. I feel like I’m playing catch-up on basic life things that I didn’t get to do working so much.”

After portraying a high school student for nearly eight years—two of those on the hit show Degrassi: The Next Generation—Dobrev is on the fast track to adulthood, beginning with purchasing and decorating her first L.A. home, which she admits has been a long, eye-opening experience. “I’ve been getting ideas from [my designers, Consort’s Brandon Qattrone and MyDomaine editor at large Mat Sanders] and stepping out of my usual patterns and doing things that I never would have done,” she says. “I’ve been trusting them a lot and taking risks, but it has paid off.” Continue Reading at Who What Wear
