Previously on The Vampire Diaries: Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) officially got together, Bonnie (Kat Graham) officially died and came back as a ghost, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) officially left for New Orleans, aka his own spinoff The Originals, and Stefan (Paul Wesley) was officially beginning the worst summer ever after being locked in a box and put to sea by Silas…after we learned the younger Salvatore brother is his doppelgänger!

Phew, did you get all that? Good, because the CW hit returns for its fifth season in less than two weeks and we just watched the premiere, “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” and can’t wait for you to see The Vampire Diaries: The College Years. While we’re always nervous when our favorite teen TV dramas attempt to make the transition from high school (see: The O.C., Gossip Girl, etc.) TVD doesn’t experience an awkward stage as the season-five opener effortlessly hops between the freshman fun at Whitmore College and the doppelgänger drama back in Mystic Falls.
