Nina Dobrev has officially started filming her next film Departures. The synopsis was previously released months before filming during pre-production and there is finally an expanded cast list to compliment the storyline. We already knew that Nina Dobrev, Asa Butterfield and Maisie Williams’ characters would be at the centre of the story as Izzy, Calvin and Skye respectively, while Tituss Burgess who stars in comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will be playing Julian; Tyler Hoechlin who previously starred in Teen Wolf as Derek Hale and is portraying Clark Kent and Superman in the Supergirl series will play the role of Frank; Peyton List who has starred as Emma Ross in comedy series Jessie and Bunk’d will play Ashley; and Ken Jeong who stars as Mr. Chow in The Hangover trilogy plays Officer Al. A full list of cast and credits is available from IMDB.
As anticipated Nina has been having lots of fun on the set of Departures. For instance, eating while trying to talk with Tituss Burgess…

Departures already looks to be shaping up pretty well in preparation for a 2018 release.
It has been confirmed via the official website for the local Toronto chapter of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees union that Flatliners will be receiving post-production reshoots. It is unknown if the entire cast will be participating in the post-production reshoots and it will hopefully not affect Nina’s filming schedule for Departures.

The filming will be taking place from July 24th until August 1st 2017 in Toronto, Canada with the release date set for September 29th 2017; which has to pose the question if the release date will be delayed again when factoring in the editing process and distributing Flatliners to cinemas on a global scale. The film was previously delayed from August 18th to September 29th 2017 which means it is currently set to release in the same week as American Made starring Tom Cruise. Given the psychological horror tone of Flatliners; I would personally suggest that a Halloween opening would be much more appropriate.
The lack of an official website and first trailer does seem to be cutting it a bit close to generate promotion prior to the current release date which is rather odd given that it will be released by Sony Pictures who normally promote films significantly in advance.
After 170 episodes having aired in the UK; the 171st and final-ever episode of The Vampire Diaries is set to air on ITV2 in the UK late on Tuesday night, May 9th 2017 at 11.55pm. The finale episode titled I Was Feeling Epic includes the much anticipated return of Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce.

Unfortunately, there is no confirmation from ITV2 regarding any airing of the hour long retrospective special titled Forever Yours which aired in America on The CW prior to the finale. However, I have reached out to ITV’s viewer services for comment; therefore I will certainly update everyone if I receive a response. Either way, I am sure the Forever Yours look-back will be featured in the Blu-Ray and DVD box set releases.
I want to thank the entire cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries for 171 episodes of one of the greatest sci-fi television series in modern times; consequently I wish the very best to everyone on their new ventures whether they be spin-offs from The Vampire Diaries or something completely different.
